Your mind holds the remote to your life—don’t get stuck endlessly replaying the same moments. Choose to press play on new possibilities.

Memories are echoes of the past

Imagine yourself staring at the vast blue sky and white clouds floating on its surface. Likewise, our mind is the vast blue sky and our memories are fleeting snippets of white clouds. Have you even seen the sky clinging onto those clouds? But yes, we intentionally let our minds cling onto our bad memories. Our minds can’t let go off the bad memories. these memories therefore triggers toxic feelings like anger, sadness, depravity or humiliation within us. They act like loud roars from our past, governing our now. It feels like an uncontrolled TV set whose volume has increased intolerably and you can’t find the remote anywhere nearby. Learn to observe those feelings or noises from the past. Don’t judge them, yourself, or others. This observation can drive you towards peace, performance, and optimal utilization of your mind.

Why is it important?

This is because our human body is like a giant industry grade chemical lab. It’s filled with thousands of chemicals. They take the form of hormones, neurotransmitters, enzymes, lipids, carbs, and cytokines. The list is endless. Now the reality is these chemicals are used to run our entire existence. Starting from locomotion to metabolism- these chemicals are indispensable. From aerobic to slumber, from love to hate- these chemicals are the root cause behind all. It is obvious that to run the complex human existence- we need both good as well as bad chemicals. Oxytocin helps us bond with our loved ones, cortisol help us run faster at times of crisis. Our thoughts and memories are like two wild cats inside the lab. If they stay calm, the lab will be safe. In case a cat-fight breaks, you know what would happen to the lab. We allow these cat-fights everyday in our minds. Those two cats of good and bad memories/ emotions are in our control. Despite that everyday we let them decimate us emotionally and physiologically.

Disclaimer: Happiness or suffering has a lot to do with our consciousness and cognitive abilities. This article is an attempt to deep dive into the human consciousness by the author. From academic research papers, spiritual scriptures, science journals and interviews of different researchers of neuroscience and quantum physics, the author has tried to present his idea of human consciousness. It does not intend to hurt or discourage any belief, community, ethnicity, nationality organization or individual. The study of consciousness has not yet been wholly included in mainstream science because science solely relies on evidences derived from sensory inputs, however consciousness is something beyond human sensory perception.
